protection for the water vole. The water vole together with the angel

Laws protecting the critically endangered Sumatran Tiger have failed
to prevent tiger body parts being openly sold in Indonesia, according
to a TRAFFIC report.Tiger body parts, including canine teeth, claws,
skin pieces, whiskers and bones, were on sale in 10 percent of the 326
retail outlets surveyed during 2006 in 28 cities and towns across
Sumatra.

Snares ban likely as celebrities urge end to 'sickening' traps. The
use of snares could be outlawed in Scotland this week when Michael
Russell, Minister for Environment, announces his decision over the use
of the animal traps to the Parliament on Wednesday.

The decision by the European Commission to take Malta to the European
Court of Justice over the spring hunting and trapping of wild birds,
which is illegal under EU law. Every spring since its accession to the
EU in 2004, Malta has permitted hunting and trapping of turtle dove
and common quail in contravention of the EU Birds Directive.

Hounds chased a fox into an empty house in a Northamptonshire village
before cornering and killing the animal in the bathroom. A villager
said: "The hounds pursued the fox into the house and it was a bit
of a bloodbath. I saw the fox being chased across a field."

ICABS has asked RTE Radio to stop classifying hare coursing as a sport.
The appeal comes following an RTE sports report in which Clonmel
coursing results were featured. The station has been reminded of the
mass opposition to the blood sport and the suffering inflicted on hares.

Tiger conservation plans lost in the jungle. Along with a sharp drop in
tiger numbers revealed in the latest census, a conference of the
country’s forest officials also showed that most states had made
little progress in implementing steps for wildlife conservation.

Six buzzards have been killed in Lincolnshire in the past fortnight. One
of the birds died of its injuries after being found caught in a trap at
Odder, between Saxilby and Lincoln. The others were shot. Three were
found together in Folkingham, one in Culverthorpe and another just
outside Sleaford.

Undercover
