1). I will start off with what the words RCD stand for and why you need them if you use any form of electrical or electronic devise in the home, office or even Animal shelters or were ever electricity is being used RCD stands for (Residual Current Device).
2). Many electrical fires are caused by earth leakage current due to faulty wiring or electrical equipment going wrong. In fact, leakage current of 250 milliamps or less can start a fire. Yet normal protection devices will not detect such low current levels. However, RCD's will trip out and greatly reduce the risk of an electrical fire.
3). If you have Pets at home and you are out at work you could have an electrical fire any time things like video recorders, Freezers, electric clocks, Christmas tree lights any thing that is electrical can course an electrical fire if it is left on or in stand by mode and it developed an electrical fault.
